About the Institute for Christian Statecraft

The Institute for Christian Statecraft (ICS) is a policy research think tank dedicated to the serious study of the moral, philosophical, and theological foundations of American public life. Rooted in the historic Christian intellectual tradition, the Institute examines how Christian thought shaped the development of the United States and continues to influence its institutions, laws, and civic culture.

Our Mission

The mission of the Institute for Christian Statecraft is to advance research, policy analysis, and leadership formation that clarify the role of Christian moral and theological thought in American political development and explore its relevance for contemporary questions of governance, law, and public order.

Research & Policy Work

ICS produces original research, policy papers, and historical analysis focused on:

  • The Christian intellectual and theological roots of the American founding

  • The relationship between Christian moral thought and constitutional government

  • The development of American legal and civic institutions within a Christian moral framework

  • Questions of authority, liberty, responsibility, and public virtue

  • The institutional and social consequences of moral and spiritual secularization

Our work draws from history, political theory, theology, and law, engaging primary sources and serious scholarship rather than transient political trends or partisan narratives.

Training & Formation

In addition to research, ICS maintains a structured training and formation component designed to cultivate future scholars, analysts, and institutional leaders. These programs translate rigorous research into applied understanding and prepare participants to engage public life with clarity, discipline, and intellectual depth.

Training initiatives include:

  • Seminars on political theology, constitutional development, and moral philosophy

  • Research fellowships and analyst development tracks

  • Writing and policy-analysis workshops grounded in primary-source study

  • Cohort-based programs emphasizing judgment, institutional literacy, and stewardship

These programs are designed to form individuals who can responsibly interpret the American political tradition, contribute to serious policy conversations, and serve institutions with competence and moral clarity.

Institutional Role

The Institute for Christian Statecraft operates as a research and educational organization. We do not engage in electoral politics or partisan campaigning. Our role is to inform public understanding, strengthen intellectual infrastructure, and develop leaders capable of sustaining serious engagement with the Christian foundations of American public life.

Vision

ICS envisions a renewed seriousness in American governance and civic culture—one that recognizes the formative influence of Christian moral reasoning on the nation’s institutions and equips a new generation to engage that inheritance thoughtfully. Through disciplined research and principled formation, the Institute seeks to contribute to the long-term health, coherence, and legitimacy of American public institutions.
